TACOMA, WA – A driver was killed in a semi-truck crash on Interstate 5 South that partially closed the highway for more than 13 hours on Monday, reports KING 5.
The accident took place close to 7:30 a.m. at the 97 mile post and 113th avenue overpass where a semi-truck struck a guardrail and then the overpass’ support pillar.
The driver, whose identity was not given, is thought by investigators to have either suffered a medical crisis or have fallen asleep at the wheel prior to the crash. They were pronounced dead at the scene.
In addition to the removal of the vehicle, response to the crash included determining the integrity of the overpass.
